Deane worked his entire career as a teacher and coach at Osseo High School. He made an impact on the lives of so many, whether being students, fellow teachers or other coaches. But the dedication and focus he presented to the sport of cross-country and track was where his compassion shown through. He dedicated time, knowledge and expertise to encourage the love of the sport. He coached for nearly 40 years clamining many accolades included State Championships and All-State Runners.
As the planning of the 2016 Maple Grove Days began, it was the decision of Mike Anderson, chair of the Rice Lake Classic Run at that time, to rename this annual event to be the "Jim Deane Memorial Rice Lake Classic Run" Jim, being a runner himself, was on hand every year to organize the runners, blast the starting gun, cheer on the participants and hand out awards. It is the priviledge of the Maple Grove Community Organization to honor Jim Deane in this Maple Grove Days tradition.
